Honda Achieves No Waste to Landfill: Video

Honda has adopted a global environmental slogan -- Blue Skies for Our Children -- to inspire our company to achieve new targets we have established to reduce CO2 emissions from our products and the operations that produce them. These words arouse strong emotions in Honda engineers, and take me back to a time four decades ago when the same phrase served as the rallying cry for Honda's first effort to tackle a challenging environmental issue.

Honda's Latest Environmental Achievement, Zero Waste to Lanfill.  See the Video below and continue to the Graph that chronicles the past several years.

When people think of Honda’s environmental leadership, their attention naturally turns to our leading product fuel efficiency or the company’s pioneering efforts to reduce tailpipe emissions and advance alternative-fuel technologies.  What they may not realize is that Honda’s commitment to the environment includes significant and often industry-leading efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the factories that manufacture our products.
We recently achieved an important milestone in our longstanding “green factory” initiative—with the achievement of zero waste-to-landfill for 10 of the 14 manufacturing plants operating in North America.  Taken together, these plants have the capacity to produce more than 3 million Honda and Acura products – automobiles, all-terrain vehicles, engines and power equipment products – in a single year, and do it while sending less than one-half of one percent of all manufacturing waste to landfills, with the vast majority of the remaining waste being recycled and reused in either our own plants or as material in other company’s products.
Our drive to zero waste has been more than a decade in the making and began in earnest with the establishment of our sixth North American auto plant, in Lincoln, Alabama, which became the very first zero-waste-to-landfill auto plant in North America when it began operations in 2001. Our seventh and newest auto plant in the region, in Greensburg, Indiana, was also designed from the ground up to be a zero-waste-to-landfill facility.  What’s especially noteworthy, however, about what we’ve accomplished is that this level of waste prevention is not only happening at our newer auto plants but also at our older facilities, which were designed long before zero waste was a goal.

As you can see from the Chart above, Honda has made vast improvements in the way Honda Factories channel waste products generated from manufacturing New Honda Vehicles over the last 11 years.  This type of environmental conscience manufacturing is just one more reason to be proud of American Honda.  Breakaway Honda is dedicated to continuing Honda's strong commitment to environmentally careful industry and business practices.  Thank you American Honda From Bradshaw Automotive, Bradshaw Auto Greenville

Take a look at J.D. Power recommendations for Honda.

New for 2011-Honda

2011 Honda ModelsHistory
Honda Motor Company, a Japanese automaker, was founded in 1948. The company originally constructed small engine parts for Toyota—a manufacturer that would eventually become one of its biggest rivals. The Toyota deal ended shortly thereafter andHonda focused on launching a line of small fuel-efficient engines that were used to power bicycles. The natural progression of that business led the growing company to build motorcycles, and eventually automobiles. While Honda is well-known for fuel efficiency and smaller vehicles, the manufacturer began a racing program in the mid-1960s that still continues today. In 1986, the company launched its own line of premium vehicles under its Acurabrand. Toyota and Nissan followed its lead and launched their Lexus and Infinitipremium brands several years later.
Today, Honda manufactures a range of passenger automobiles. The current lineup contains coupes, sedans, a minivan and sport utility vehicles with up-to-8-passenger seating capacities. An engine company from the beginning, Honda vehicles are offered with gasoline, hybrid and, in some cases, natural gas powerplants. Models include both front- and all-wheel drive. Honda vehicles are manufactured and sold around the globe.

Honda Announces Global CO2 Emissions Reduction Targets Including 30% Reduction for Products

-New Global Environmental Slogan Established-
TOKYO, Japan, June 21, 2011 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. issued its Environmental Annual Report 2011. Striving to realize the Honda Environmental Vision of the joy and freedom of mobility and a sustainable society where people can enjoy life, Honda has established 2020 CO2 emissions reduction targets to address the most important business management issues of climate change and energy issues. At the same time, Honda introduced a global environmental slogan that draws directly from Honda's environmental heritage - "Blue Skies for Our Children."
Honda has been pursuing its own environmental targets and is committed to proactive environmental conservation activities. In 2006, Honda set a goal to reduce global CO2emissions from use of its motorcycles, automobiles and power products by 10 percent by the end of 2010 compared to year 2000 levels. In 2010, the goal was attained by all products.
Honda has now set a target to reduce CO2 emissions from its global products by 30 percent by the end of 2020 compared to year 2000 levels. Furthermore, in addition to reducing CO2 emissions during production and supply chain, Honda will strengthen its efforts to realize reductions in CO2 emissions through its entire corporate activities. Honda will also strengthen its efforts in advancing technologies in the area of total energy management, to reduce CO2 emissions through mobility and people’s everyday lives.
In addition, Honda has established a global environmental slogan as an expression of the company’s proactive commitment to make progress in its environmental efforts on a global basis. With this slogan, Honda will strive to become the leader in the area of environmental and energy technologies.
The new global environmental slogan and symbol will be used with Honda’s internal and external environmental activities and communications around the world.

•Honda Environmental Vision:

Realizing “the Joy and Freedom of Mobility” and
“a Sustainable Society where People Can Enjoy Life”

•Global Environmental Slogan:

Blue Skies for Our Children
Honda engineers who took on the challenge to meet the stringent new emissions standards of the 1970s U.S. Clean Air Act, used the phrase “blue skies for our children” as a passionate rallying cry to devote themselves to this effort. Honda wants to pass on the “joy and freedom of mobility to the next generation” (for our children), therefore, we want to realize a sustainable society where people can enjoy life (blue skies). This slogan continues to represent Honda’s passion toward its environmental commitment which has not wavered and will remain resolute in the future.

•Global Environmental Symbol:

BLUE SKIES FOR OUR CHILDREN
The circular graphic represents the earth and sun with blue skies (clean air), clean water, and lush green land expressing the bounty of nature that is necessary for us to realize a sustainable society where people can enjoy life. The white line through the middle represents a road where freedom of mobility is realized, while the heart represents Honda’s thinking and passion toward our environmental commitment.
